A 25-year-old man was arrested for arson and disorderly behaviour after a tractor was set alight at Portadown People’s Park on Sunday.
Police in Portadown are asking the public to be vigilant of antisocial behaviour around the park and to report any suspicious or criminal activity at the earliest opportunity.
The 25-year-old He was charged in relation to disorderly behaviour and appeared before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on 28 September. In relation to arson he was released on bail pending further enquiries.
Inspector Duncan McBain said: “Work is still ongoing in People’s Park and it is still closed to the public however we have received a number of complaints of antisocial behaviour here over the last few weeks. The plans for the Park are to make it a space that can be enjoyed by the entire local community and it is disappointing to see the hard work of the council and local residents undermined before everyone can enjoy the benefits.
“We want the community to be able to enjoy what the Park will bring when it is completed and we will be conducting regular patrols in the area. We are also asking the community to help us protect this shared space and report any antisocial behaviour to us as it happens. We would ask parents to speak to their children and make them aware that the park is closed and should not be entered.”
Police can be contacted on 101.
