Laurentiu Ciurar, Harford Street, Portadown, was also fined £250. He was given an absolute discharge for failing to produce his driving licence within seven days.

The court heard that at 4.05pm police spoke to the defendant and he confirmed ownership of the car and that he had been driving that day.

A check showed there was no insurance and Ciurar was asked to produce his insurance and licence to police but failed to do so in time.

On November 7 he showed police a valid licence and said that he could not get a copy of his insurance from the insurance company.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had applied for insurance with the AA but there was concern about the date of birth provided to them.

He added that Ciurar had now rectified the insurance position.
