After he was taken to the custody suite in Lurgan police station a man spat in a cell, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.
Mark McKinley (21), Bluestone Hall, Craigavon, admitted a charge of criminal damage to a police cell on December 10 last year. He was fined £250.
The court heard that after a damage only road traffic incident McKinley was taken to the custody suite at Lurgan police station where he spat a number of times in a cell.
A barrister representing the defendant said there had been a traumatic incident where a friend of the defendant had been brutally stabbed to death in 2012.
He added that the defendant had suffered post traumatic stress disorder as a result of what happened.
The barrister said McKinley, in the cell, felt a sense of isolation.
He added the defendant lost control of himself and would apologise profusely for his behaviour.
