A Portadown man who was abusive to staff of a takeaway restaurant in the town was put on probation for 12 months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.
At a previous court Barry Dennis Allen (54), Dawson Green, admitted disorderly behaviour on March 25.
The case had been adjourned for a pre-sentence report could be obtained.
A public prosecutor said this was deemed a hostility offence. Police were tasked to the Spice House takeaway after a report of a male person being abusive to staff.
There had been a dispute about an order and Allen had been asked to leave.
He used verbal and racist abuse and said something along the lines of ‘thinking you own the country’.
When cautioned by police Allen made no reply.
A defence solicitor said that while it was reprehensible what Allen had done it was not the worst racist abuse heard in court. He added that there were gaps in his record and this happened when he had drink taken.
District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said Allen had a bad record but it was over a period of time.
He added that although the remark was racist it was at a low level.
