When he was caught with Diazepam tablets in his pocket, a Portadown man said he had bought them from a man in the local park.
William Ward (52), Garvaghy Park, Portadown, was fined £120 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for unlawful possession of a class C drug on April 18 last year.
Ward, who appeared in court via videolink from Maghaberry prison, was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
The court heard that when police searched the defendant they found 70 Diazepam tablets in his pocket. He was not prescribed these tablets. When interviewed he said he bought them from a man in the local park.
He had an extensive record but there was no entry for drugs.
Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said Ward was currently serving a sentence.
