McKay welcomes plastic bag levy
Mr McKay who had an Act on a Single Carrier Bag Levy passed by the Assembly last year said
“Evidence shows that wherever a levy of this type has been introduced it has been a great success, especially with members of the public,” he said.

“Administration of the levy has been an issue that generated significant debate when I consulted on my legislation last year and it is also to be welcome that up to ten jobs will be created to carry out this role.
“Sinn Féin first brought this proposal to the Executive in the last Assembly where it was adopted. We have also passed legislation for the levy. It is good to see that there is cross party support for this initiative that will be welcomed by members of the public and those who want to see their streets and countryside free of litter.”
