Another Lurgan play park may be closed for around two weeks due to vandalism, it has been revealed.
Residents in Taghnevan are furious that the play park has been so badly damaged by hooligans.
Local Sinn Fein Councillor Liam Mackle said he was appalled at vandalism and damage caused to the Play Park.
“This is an absolute disgrace,” he said,
“The park has now had to close due the actions of a few mindless idiots.
The councillor added: “This play area is well used by local children and they have had it taken away from them.
“The weather is still fine and school has started back and the park is a great place for children to have fun after school,” he said.
“I have been speaking to council officers and this closure could last two weeks.
“Hopefully the culprits will be caught and shamed for their attack on their own community.”
A spokesperson for Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council said: “The impact surface in Taghnevan playpark was extensively damaged at the weekend.
“The top layer of the play surface was removed and Council have been able to set this surfacing back in place; however as it can be easily lifted the park will be locked to prevent further damage and for safety reasons.
“This play park will remain closed until all necessary repairs have been made, which will happen as soon as possible.”
