Model Primary holds harvest thanksgiving

Year 7 pupils with their teachers Mrs Robinson and Mrs Thompson before heading out to distribute Harvest Gift Bags to the local senior citizens. Also included within the picture is Jackie Brogan from Tescos in Ballymoney who provided the reusable bags.

Mrs Jennifer Campbell was the guest of honour on the day as well as the special guests of the Year 1 parents who were invited to join with the school to celebrate their children’s first performance.

Mrs Jamison, the principal, extended a warm welcome to everyone and the assembly began with a Thanksgiving Poem read by Katie McConaghie in Year 7.

Next the whole school joined together to sing the song ‘Someone’s brought a loaf of bread’. One child from every class assisted within this song as each brought a different harvest gift to the table.

This was then followed by the Year 1 song ‘Harvest Time’ and the Year 2 song ‘Thank You for the Harvest’. Next in the programme a Harvest Poem was read by the following Year 7 pupils, Rebecca Parkhill, Ellie Anderson, Sarah Connolly, Ella Given and David Barrett. Years 3 and 4 then joined together to sing the song ‘Come To Our Harvest’.

Mrs Campbell then addressed the children talking about Harvest and the importance of understanding and appreciating the need of others around the world at this time. The children responded well to Mrs Campbell’s questions and the accompanying PowerPoint was enjoyed by all.

Matthew Knight, as the oldest pupil within the school, and Robbie Culbertson, as the youngest pupil, presented Mrs Campbell with a thank you gift from the school.

The concluding piece was the Year 5, 6 and 7 classes singing ‘Harvest Hymn’.

Mrs Jamison thanked everyone involved, Mrs Campbell the guest speaker, all those involved in putting together today’s programme, Mrs Carson and Miss Stinson for accompanying the children on the piano and to those involved in the decoration of the hall.

Many thanks were also extended to the parents for their kindness and generosity in bringing in many items of food that would be later distributed to senior citizens within the local area.

The Ballymoney Tesco store was also thanked for their generosity in providing re-usable bags for the distribution of the school’s food parcels.

Later that day the two Year 7 teachers Mrs Robinson and Mrs Thompson with their classes packed the food parcels and then distributed them to residents in Eastermede, Margaret Square and Avenue, Charlotte Street and Townhead Street areas of Ballymoney.
