Moderator to attend Guildhall community relations debate

THE Presbyterian Moderator of the General Assembly will visit Londonderry for an open debate tomorrow Friday, October 1, as part of a 10 day visit to the Derry and Donegal Presbytery area.

This dialogue event, which is set to take place at the Guildhall, is one of a number of events that have been planned aimed at encouraging open discussion among the public to address opportunities in improving community relations and encourage engagement between different communities here.

Rev Norman Hamilton, Minister of Ballysillan Presbyterian Church in North Belfast, is the current Moderator for 2010-2011.

He is well known for his efforts to provide a resolution of the Holy Cross dispute of a few years ago and is keen to promote dialogue between diverse communities on a range of issues including policing and encouraging the churches to regain credibility with the public through humility and service.

The open debate will take place in the Guildhall's Whitaker Suite from 2–4pm and co-ordinators, Derry City Councils Community Relations section, have said that some spaces remain for the event.
