The mother of a teenage girl knocked down at Loughgall Road, Portadown has appealed for witnesses to help trace the hit and run driver responsible.
Nicky Williamson spoke of her shock after her 13-year-old daughter Chloe was struck by a car as she crossed the road with her friend Katie Fleming last Wednesday (December 5).
The incident happened as the girls were making their way to Cloumnagh Junior High School around 8am.
It appears a driver had signalled for the girls to cross in front of her but did not wait for them to get off the road before she moved off, with Chloe struck by the vehicle - bringing her friend down with her.
Chloe recieved bruising to her leg - which was treated by paramedics at the roadside.
Shocked mum Nicky said shortly after the incident: “I don’t think it has sunk in yet, when I had to phone the school to tell them she wouldn’t be in it hit me.
“Her wee brother was also badly upset by it.
“Everyone seems to be in just so much of a rush.”
Police have also appealed for witnesses.
A police spokesperson said: “We are seeking to identify the driver involved, who allegedly did not stop at the time of the collision.
“The driver is described as female and driving a red or orange medium sized vehicle.”
The officer went on to say: “This incident could very easily have ended in tragedy and although thankfully the injuries were minor in this case, it must be said it is completely incomprehensible how someone could drive on without stopping in this situation.
“I would also like to take this opportunity coming up to Christmas to remind drivers to be especially aware of the road conditions and road worthiness of their vehicles.
Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them. The reference is 185 12/05/18.
