Police expect the sale of Moira Police Station to fetch £200k as plans move to dispose of the building.
Currently with limited opening hours, it has transpired that the station is to be permanently closed.
Tandragee station is set to close also.
In recent times Lurgan has become a police hub with Armagh as a satellite station and Banbridge getting an administrative HQ status.
According to the latest report on the police estate, plans are also afoot for a ‘Supersuite’ of cells for Craigavon to deal with ‘serious crime and terrorist detainees’.
However neither the PSNI nor the NI Policing Board were aware of where the supersuite may be located.
Recently Banbridge police station had an upgrade of their cells while the cells in Lurgan police station are currently closed for modernisation.
The report states: “In 2014, the Chief Officers of the PSNI approved a rationalised custody structure consisting of four large PACE ‘Supersuites’ and nine smaller designated Suites. The four ‘Supersuites’ were designated at Musgrave (opened in August and December 2011), Antrim (completed in 2003/04), Waterside and one in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District. Musgrave and Antrim are capable of the retention of serious crime and terrorist detainees. The proposed new ‘Supersuite’ at Waterside is due to commence in financial year 2016/17 and be completed in 2018/19. Discussions are ongoing in relation to the most appropriate location for the final ‘Supersuite’ in Craigavon.”
