'New faces'appeal forLarne RAFA

AN urgent appeal has been issued for more new faces to join the ranks of the Larne branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.

Chairman, John Kirkpatrick said there couldn’t be a better time for new members to come along as this is the 70th anniversary year of the Battle of Britain.

“I would urge all ex-members of the Royal Air Force family and their friends to come along to next week’s annual general meeting and join with the members of the Larne branch,” he said.

“The Association needs to continue in its endeavour to increase its membership. The members and friends of the Larne branch work tirelessly to uphold the aims and objectives of the association by supporting the welfare work of our honorary welfare officers.

“Support is very much needed at this time if we are to maintain the level of membership in Northern reland. There are currently 36 in the Larne branch and I appeal sincerely for new members,” he said.

Last year 138,000 was raised for Wings Appeal in Northern Ireland, of which the Larne area raised 8,300 to provide welfare support for those in need and to support the association’s respite care homes around the UK.

Mr Kirkpatrick said any new faces would be made very welcome at the annual meeting, being held on Tuesday, March 2 at 8pm in the Norman Carson room of the Royal British Legion in Point Street.

“Our AGM is an informal evening where comrades and friends can reminisce and tell the odd yarn. The evening concludes with refreshments and supper,” he said.
