Work on Portadown People’s Park has been delayed for two months, with the opening date put off from June 31 this year until August 31.
The steering group reported on Monday night that three weeks were lost, due to flooding of the site in late 2014, and that much work was required afterwards to put the damage right.
The report added that the European Union – which is financing most of the £6m scheme – was asked for an extension and this was granted.
The original letter of offer for the work stated that the grant – of around 90 per cent – was strictly conditional on a June completion, but a member of the committee said that little could be done at this stage with the work well advanced.
Committee chairman Councillor Kenneth Twyble said, “I want to place on record my gratitude for the flexibility of the European Union. The delay was due to inclement weather and was out of council control.”
