Park work ‘lessened flooding damage’

Flooding at Park Road in November would have been much worse had work on the People’s Park not been under way.

A project manager for the park’s architects also told the council’s steering group that the newly constructed pitches had helped to reduce the flood level on site.

Councillor Joe Nelson agreed, saying that an investigation had clearly shown that the construction work at the park was not the cause of the flooding and that works on site had actually lessened the scale of the damage.

Residents of six houses had to be evacuated when water swept through their front doors after the Corcrain River burst its banks.
