Passed counterfeit money five times

A WOMAN was jailed for four months after admitting passing counterfeit £20 notes.

Charlene Molloy Jones (20) from Enniskeen, Craigavon passed the notes in five different premises.

Thursday's sitting of Craigavon Magistrates Court was told police had been called to Dunnes Stores in Portadown where staff reported two females were passing counterfeit 20 notes.

Jones and another woman matched a description given by staff and were arrested.

When interviewed Jones admitted being in Dunnes but said she didn't know the money was counterfeit.

She said she had received the notes from a Post Office in Craigavon and a bank in Portadown.

A defending solicitor said Jones was in custody on another matter and was due for release on December 20.

The solicitor added Jones had no other matters to come before the court in the pipeline, adding: "This incident occurred at a time, September 2009, when she was getting involved in other matters. It has been very difficult for her."

The solicitor asked that the district judge not interfere with her release date.

Imposing a four month term on each of the five offences to run concurrently the judge said her release date would not be affected.
