Paul McCauley: Funeral

The funeral of Londonderry man Paul McCauley took place on Thursday.

His funeral Mass was at 2pm at St Columb’s Chapel, Waterside, followed by burial at Ballyoan cemetery.

Paul McCauley was left severely brain damaged following a vicious sectarian assault almost nine years after he had enjoyed a barbecue with friends at Chapel Road in the city.

Since the attack which occurred when Paul was 29, he had remained in a vegetative state, unable to communicate and confined to bed for most of the time.

He died on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Unity of Purpose group in Londonderry, which consists of the MEP, MPs, MLAs, statutory, business and community leaders from the city, has offered its condolences to the McCauley family.

“The Unity of Purpose Group would like to offer our condolences and deep sorrow to the family of Paul MC Cauley who died today as a result of a vicious sectarian attack nine years ago.

“Paul and his family have suffered much over the past nine years whilst Paul clung onto life, but today he lost that battle.

The City shares their loss and grief.”
