Carnlough Vintage Society’s big day out

THERE was a good turnout of 49 tractors for the vintage road run organised by the Carnlough Vintage Society.

The cavalcade set off from William Wright’s Farm, Largy Road, heading along the Gortnacory Road, travelling through the old Limestone Works onto the Waterfall Road, then up through Gortin to Aughalum for the midway break at Hugh and Mary McCambridge’s.

Here everyone was ‘fed and watered’ by Gillian Wharry Catering, before heading back down the Waterfall Road into Carnlough, then towards Glenarm, up towards Straidkilly, onto the Tully Road, through Mr Hunter’s Farm up to the top of the hill for a tremendous view of the area. The roadrunners then went back down through O’Kane Brothers’ land to the finishing point at Ballyvaddy Road.

A spokesperson for Carnlough Vintage Society expressed thanks to Mrs Maureen Wright for the tea, scones and cakes at the starting point, Hugh and Mary McCambridge for the use of their premises for the midway break, all those whose land the road run travelled through, those who took part and everyone who helped in any way to make the event such a success.

Next up for Carnlough Vintage Society is their annual Vintage Day, held in the village on Saturday, July 28.
