Jim Hanratty to be laid to rest

A stalwart of the former Morton Newspapers Group and a well known figure in local golf circles will be laid to rest tomorrow (Wednesday).

Mr James Hanratty served for many years with the Lurgan based newspaper group, a familiar figure striding through the corridors of the group’s headquarters building, a jovial smile on his face and sage advice on his lips for younger members of staff.

He died peacefully at Craigavon Area Hospital on Sunday, September 13.

Jim was the beloved husband of Jemma, loving father of Mary, Brian, Susan, James and Louise, dear father-in-law to Miriam and the late Harry, cherished granda of Christopher, Carly, Grace, Aidan, Niall, Matthew and Emma and great granda of Harry, Ellie, and Hollie.

His funeral will take place from his home, 7 Allenhill Park, Lurgan, on Wednesday to arrive at St. Peter’s Church for 1.30pm Requiem Mass.

Burial afterwards in St. Colman’s Cemetery.

He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his loving family and the entire family circle.

A family death notice requested: “Please be mindful that COVID-19 restrictions remain in place whereby social distancing must be observed at all times.”

Editor’s note: On behalf of all of us who served with Jim in his Morton Newspapers days we pass on our deepest condolences to his family at this sad time. Jim was very much part of the fabric of life within Morton Newspapers for many years and we were all greatly saddened to learn of his passing.
