Representatives from each of the east Antrim side’s three supporters’ clubs, members of the Royal British Legion, Chairman Gareth Clements as well as first team players will be in attendance at the socially distanced event, as the fallen from the two World Wars are remembered.

A club spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, due to current Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to open this to the wider public.

“This is the second year in a row the club have organised an Act of Remembrance, having joined for something similar ahead of the 0-0 draw with Crusaders last November.”

The short service will be led by Club Chaplain Ian Cahoon and will include a Bible reading, prayers, minute’s silence, laying of the wreaths and the Last Post.

Looking ahead to the private event, Ian said: “Like so many other things in the world at this moment in time, we have to plan our Act of Remembrance differently to how we would like to do it.

“However, even though there will be fewer people in attendance than last year we felt Remembrance was something we still very much wanted to mark.

“Having the input from all three supporters’ clubs, first team and local Royal British Legion ensures we have a good representation in the small number who will be gathered.”

Meanwhile, an Act of Remembrance will also be staged on Saturday at The Oval ahead of the match.

A Glentoran spokesperson said: “The ceremony will be followed by a minute’s silence and will involve the Chairmen, Chaplains and reprsentative players of both teams.”
