NI bonfire builders’ NHS tribute collapses in strong winds

A tribute to NHS workers, created by bonfire builders in Portadown, has collapsed in strong winds this morning.

The 30 feet tall structure in Corcrain was built from pallets collected for the July bonfire which has been called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Heavy winds have lashed across Northern Ireland this morning and the NHS tribute structure, which was erected on the green in the Corcrain estate, collapsed this morning.

In a statement the Loyalist Corcrain Redmanville Bonfire group said the team ‘are aware that our N H S structure has suffered the brunt of the elements and has in fact collapsed’.

The statement continued: “Safety fancing has been put in place to protect our main support, you the general public and immediate residents of Corcrain Redmanville.

“We assure you that the structure will be rebuilt when the weather subsides. Thanks for all your support.”
