NI shopping centre cafe remains open after staff member tests positive for COVID-19

A popular cafe at a busy NI shopping centre has revealed a member of staff has tested positive for COVID-19.

Number Seven at Rushmere Shopping Centre in Craigavon said it will remain open.

In a statement on their Facebook page, Number Seven said any staff members in close contact with the person who has tested positive for COVID-19 have been tested and their results came back negative. However those members of staff are now self-isolating.

The statement said: “Number Seven Rushmere would like to make everyone aware that one of our members of staff tested positive for Covid 19.

“They last worked at Number Seven on Saturday where they had limited customer contact, felt unwell on Monday evening and got tested on Tuesday afternoon.

“Any staff members that were in close contact with this person have been tested and those results have been negative and they are now self isolating.”

The cafe said that they are following the Public Health Agency guidelines and advice.

The statement continued: “We have completed our twice daily deep clean (including fog machine) and have not closed our doors.

“Unfortunately as we are all aware this virus has not gone away so we continue to keep the highest hygiene and safety standards for our customers and staff and wish our friend and colleague a speedy recovery.”

The cafe also posted a video of staff using their fogging machine.

They said they were using safe cleaning chemicals and UV light. “It helps sterilize every surface of the premises

“This procedure is carried out every night after service alongside our twice daily deep clean” said the Facebook statement.

They also asked that any comments regarding this incident are ‘kept respectful remembering that a member of our staff was one of the unfortunate ones to catch this virus’.

“You wouldn’t laugh, or make fun of someone who caught the flu so please think before you comment below.”
