Plans to ‘transform’ Greenisland - Storey
A combined ‘community greenway’ for walkers and cyclists, sited along a length of disused railway track, was one of the proposals outlined as part of the larger Greenisland masterplan.
An open forum event on the masterplan was held on Friday at Greenisland Community Centre, with residents encouraged to put forward their ideas over what should be included in the redevelopment of the area.

“One of the key things for me is the walkway that would follow the old railway track from Greenisland towards Mossley; that’s something I would really like to come to fruition. Retaining green spaces is also very important,” the first citizen said.
“There was a steady stream of people coming and going on Friday, and the proposals as a whole will be on display at the community centre for 12 weeks so I’d encourage anyone in Greenisland who hasn’t already done so to have a look.”
Meanwhile, Minister for Social Development Mervyn Storey said the proposals had the potential to “transform” Greenisland for the benefit of those who live, visit and work in the area.
