Portadown Defenders Flute Band are set to host their annual parade and competition this weekend.

The event takes place on Friday night, and around fifty bands of different styles are expected to travel to Portadown to participate.

The Defenders will open the night by walking through the town at 7pm, with visiting bands following suit after their return to the starting point in Joseph Street. The parade will travel through Bridge St, High St, Market St, Church St, Armagh Rd, Jervis St and West St, before returning to Watson St.

The hosts have worked tirelessly throughout the last twelve months - attending over 50 parades across Northern Ireland - to raise the profile of the parade.

A total of eleven trophies will be up for grabs on Friday evening, with all visiting bands being judged on their performance on the night. Magherafelt’s Dunamoney Flute Band will be keen to retain their Best Overall Band trophy, which they won last year.

A collection will take place on the night for band funds.
