Presentation eco warriorson warpath in waste fight

Eco warriors have been involved in a number of activities as part of the school’s application for the Green Flag award.

As part of their recent National Waste Week activities, the school received a visit from David Phillips, recycling inspector with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, who gave a talk on ways and what to 
recycle.

During the week, the school completed lots of activities, including designing waste posters for a whole school competition.

They also held a no waste lunchbox day where children were not allowed to include any waste in their lunch boxes, eg tin foil or juice cartons. Instead, they had to use recyclable containers for 
sandwiches and drinks in order to highlight the amount of waste we use that sometimes cannot be fully 
recycled.

There was a whole school assembly where Mr Phillips gave a talk on the correct way to use the three different coloured bins, explaining what could and could not be put in each bin.

The warriors meet every Monday after school from 3-4pm. One of the schemes they have been taking part in is Cash for Clobber where they collect old clothing and textiles from their homes and have it converted into 
cash.

They have also planted flowers and herbs in their eco garden, especially flowers that attract bees in order to increase pollination, as well as making fat and birdseed balls during winter time so the birds do not go hungry and stay in the garden.

The pupils also designed and made a sign for the eco garden explaining all the different things that are in it.

The school is currently waiting for a visit from the Eco inspectors who will assess their work and decide if they should be awarded the Green Flag.
