£20m pledged by DSD to regeneration projects

THE Department of Social Development (DSD) has pledged almost £20m to eighty three separate regeneration projects in Londonderry.

Social Development Minister Alex Attwood advised his Department was contracted to 83 projects in Londonderry.

Up until August 2010 the Department had spent 15,844,065 on urban regeneration schemes in the city and is committed to another 3,459,732. The total expected financial commitment is 19,303,798.

DSD has also committed 718,781 towards nine projects in Limavady and 1,042,720 towards 15 projects in Strabane.

The figures include revenue and capital commitments.

Mr Attwood released the figures in response to a Written Question tabled at the Stormont Assembly.

There are 790 projects across Northern Ireland with contracts in place, requiring 52.5m of funding and 101.6m has been spent to date on these projects.
