£500k investment in town power networks

The work, which started at the end of September will upgrade electricity cables in the town centre and will also facilitate the Public Realm Scheme that will commence in 2015. It is expected that the work will be complete in early November.

The upgrade project will focus on Broughshane Street, William Street, Springwell Street, Church Street and Bryan Street and NIE will contact all properties in the affected areas to make them aware the work is being carried out.

The company will also be holding an information day on in the Adair Arms Hotel, on Monday, October 6, from 11.30am-7pm for anyone who would like to find out more about the work. NIE project engineers will be there to discuss the cabling projects.

Christine Kelly, NIE Customer Relations Manager for the area, said, “We’re delighted to be announcing this level of investment in improving infrastructure. This follows previous upgrade work in other parts of the town centre, all with the aim of improving Ballymena’s electricity networks for the future.

“We will be minimising any disruption to access or services over the work period and will be putting measures in place that will reduce the impact on traffic and shoppers such as avoiding peak traffic hours in the morning and evening. However if anyone has any questions about the project, we hope they will be able to call and talk to us face to face next Monday.”
