The Portadown branch of the Royal British Legion added a real spot of colour when they held their 20th annual St Patrick’s march through the town centre.
Shoppers enjoyed the sound and spectacle of the event, with around 250 on parade, led by St Mark’s Silver Band, and including 11 Standards from branches throughout Northern Ireland. The Portadown parades is one of the province’s top RBL parades.
Craigavon Mayor Colin McCusker handed out the sprigs of shamrock, and Upper Bann MP David Simpson was among the guests.
The main man at the event was Brigadier Hubert McAllister, Honorary Colonel of 2 Royal Irish. He took the salute on the dais.
The Portadown Standard Bearers were Aaron McKeon and Valerie Hynds, while George Hewitt carried the St Patrick’s flag. The parade was led by Philip Morrison.
The parade proceeded from the Thomas HQ of the RBL and did a lap of the town centre, taking in Mandeville Street, West Street and on down through the town and back to Thomas Street.
