Local MLA Mr Sydney Anderson said he had been approached to have repair work carried out on the mural surrounds depicting Gilford in bygone days, which are currently located within the village.

He said: “Thankfully the repair work for the surrounds commenced and was completed at the end of last week. Credit must go to Pamela Matthews and Robert Stockley of the ABC Council and the other council authorities for the swift manner in which they carried out the repair work.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my colleague Cllr Jonathan Buckley for helping me to liaise with the relevant council authorities so that we were able to promptly deal with this problem.

“I will be monitoring the condition of the mural surrounds in the months ahead to ensure that they do not once again fall into a state of disrepair.”

Chairman of Gilford Concerned Residents Group, Mr Timothy Mayes, has also followed recent events closely and stated: “The issue of disrepair of these mural surrounds was brought to us by Gilford Together and we in Gilford Concerned Residents Group were happy to assist them to deal with this issue. I want to thank Gilford Together for their input and look forward to working with them in the future.

“I am very pleased to see the repair of the mural surrounds completed. I want to thank Mr Sydney Anderson MLA and Cllr Jonathan Buckley for their continued commitment to the village of Gilford. I am in no doubt whatsoever that their dedication to serving the needs of the village will continue.”
