Richhill members in Kenya

The members of Richhill WI were transported to Kenya at their meeting in September.

Mother and son, Elaine and Jack McNally had been part of the Team Richhill Initiative, a partnership between St Matthew’s Church of Ireland and Richhill Methodist congregations who, through Fields of Life’ spent time over the summer working at two schools in Kenya, implementing seven different projects.

This included implementing and explaining about good hygiene practices, repairing sewing machines, repainting schoolrooms, replacing dormitory mattresses, introducing different sports and outdoor games.

Through a slideshow and stories they told members of their time working with the schoolchildren and how humbling an experience it was for the team.

It was certainly an action packed adventure. As part of Gosford WI Area competition, Institute members had made pillowcase dresses to be given to the schoolgirls as part of the I am Girl project and Elaine had photographs displaying the girls wearing them.

In some cases, the girls only had a school uniform and a pillowcase dress as their only possessions.

The competition was to guess the names of the committee members from school photos and baby photos.

Maree Kennedy and Joyce McKitterick secured joint first place with the highest score.
