Frances Black was the special guest and she explained her important relationship to the charity. The singer has strong family connections with Rathlin and has got to know the lifeboat crew at Red Bay very well. Last year she attended the naming ceremony of Red Bay’s new lifeboat Geoffrey Charles and she spoke about how she had been personally touched by the work of the RNLI when a family member had reason to avail of its service.

RNLI Ireland Council member John McAuley gave an operational update on the work of the charity and its plans into the future. He said there continued to be a high demand for the services of the RNLI. Addressing the awardees he said: “The RNLI is a charity that will always have saving lives at its heart. That’s why we are still saving lives today and that’s how we can save lives tomorrow. So, whatever part you have played and continue to play, thank you.” Among the award winners, the staff and management at P&O Irish Sea were recognised for their generous support, having raised over £10,000 through various events over the last 10 years.

The Port of Larne was acknowledged for consistently supporting the operation needs of Larne lifeboat station including providing berthing facilities and clear access to the port’s slip facilities.
