Cllr Logue said: “Over the past number of weeks one of the fields that has remained open has been torn apart by youths using a number of scramblers.

“Each weekend for the past month, scramblers were making their way to this field and racing for a number of hours.

“The noise of several of these off road bikes racing was causing severe nuisance to residents.

“Eye-witnesses also reported to police that the Ballydonaghy Road was being used for these bikes, improper safety gear was being worn and on a number of occasions young people had come off their scramblers at high speed.

“It was only a matter of time before someone was seriously injured or worse.

“I have contacted those who own the field who have stressed that they did not give permission for this area to be used. They assured me that they will be closing off the access points to this field.”
