A special church service is being held in the Seagoe Parish Church of Ireland Centre tonight (Friday) to mark Unity Week.
It starts at 8pm and members of the various churches in the town will be taking part
It encompasses Prayers for Christian Unity, a worldwide organisation, and this year’s programme has been put together by the churches of Brazil.
It is part of an overall project. Every month, leaders from a variety of churches in Portadown meet for discussion, moral support and mutual encouragement to work together.
Annual events include the Good Friday Walk through the town centre, carrying a cross, and the joint Easter Day dawn service at Craigavon Lakes.
A spokesperson for the group said, “While the group is open to all church leaders in Portadown, some unfortunately do not take part. Those who do participate constantly seek to encourage others to join them.”
Last Sunday – ‘January Churches Together’ – there was an exchange of readers among local churches, who read the Scriptures at the various churches.
Prayers will be said at Seagoe tonight for Christian Unity across the globe, and everyone is welcome.
