Show day success

THE 98th annual Lurgan Show last Saturday proved to be an outstanding with visitor numbers boosted by the warm weather.

The park mall was thronged with people soaking up the atmosphere of show day and enjoying many of the stalls and exhibits.

The number of exhibits in all sections was also up, with a significant increase in entries in the cattle section.

In the Home Industries section there was around 4000 exhibits, with this section continuing its year on year success.

Demand for trade space was also greatly increased, with an impressive line-up with something for everyone.

The vintage display proved a very popular draw with old time tractors and vehicles a hit with all ages - youngsters were particularly fascinated.

A varied range of vehicles were on display ranging from the original agricultural work horse of a Marshal tractor, varied makes and models of motorcar, motorcycle, lorries and even an original Bond Bug.

All entrants on show day received a memento plate showing a true vintage farming scene. The show committee thanked everyone who continues to support this section.

In all there were 415 exhibits in the poultry section, 326 exhibits in the sheep section, 140 in the Cattle section and 500 exhibits in the Equestrian Section

Among special guests were Mayor of Craigavon Cllr Mrs Meta Crozier and Irish Shows Association President Mr John O’Hara from Co Mayo.The success of the day was a tribute to the hard work of the show committee who work tirelessly every year to ensure a big day which can be enjoyed by all the family and drawing visitors from all over Ireland and further afield.
