During the violence, a crowd of up to 100 people attacked police, residents and homes in the Ferris Avenue and Knockdhu Park areas of the town. The PSNI has blamed the south-east Antrim brigade of the UDA for the trouble.

Five men – aged between 31 and 41 – have been arrested in the Larne and Carrick areas in connection with the attacks, and a 22-year-old woman was also taken into custody.

The arrests took place between Friday and Monday. Two of the men have since been released unconditionally, and the woman was released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
