A 35-year-old man was given a suspended prison sentence last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for a drugs offence.

Charles Thomas Ward, whose address was given to the court as Moyraverty Court, Craigavon, admitted unlawful possession of a class B drug, herbal cannabis, on April 14 this year.

He was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for two years.

The court heard that police carried out a search of premises in Enniskeen where the defendant was sitting in the living room.

Ward left soon after the police arrived and a cannabis cigarette was found hidden in the cushions where the defendant had been sitting.

When he was interviewed he admitted it was cannabis and it belonged to him.

A barrister representing the defendant said it was a very small amount and Ward was the subject of a suspended sentence.
