News that a speed reduction scheme is to be implemented on the Blackisland Road has been welcomed by Councillor Darryn Causby.

Mr Causby had been contacted by residents who requested that the speed limit on the road be reduced from 60pm to 40mph.

Transport NI have now agreed to the request.

Mr Causby said “Following complaints by residents and businesses along the Blackisland Road about speeding traffic in the area, I made contact with Roads Service and requested that the speed limit on the Blackisland Road be reduced from 60mph to 40 mph.

“Given that the road is very busy and there are now a significant number of businesses and residential properties in the area it is appropriate that a speed reduction scheme is implemented to insure the safety of the people in this area.

“I welcome the commitment by Transport NI to implement this much-needed scheme and I know that businesses and residents alike will be relieved that action has been taken following the concerns that were raised. It is hoped that new road markings and signings will be installed within six weeks.”
