Squirrel causes power outage

Northern Ireland Electricity believe a squirrel may have been the cause of a power outage which shut down the traffic lights in parts of Lurgan.

Around 900 homes were without power for around two hours this morning.

Plus the traffic lights at Lurgan’s Lough Road and Annesborough were out.

The power cut happened at around 8.30am and it was fixed by 10.30am.

A spokesperson for NIE said engineers believed a squirrel had come in contact with a transformer causing the outage.

She also said the squirrel had been electrocuted.

All power is back to normal
