Stormwater and sewer work restarts in Kells

Work is restarting in Kells to lay a new stormwater sewer on the Fernisky Road and an additional sewer in Maybin Park as NI Water continues its Essential Sewer Improvement Programme in the area.

The Maybin Park scheme got underway again yesterday (Monday) with work moving back on to the Fernisky Road from next Monday. All work is scheduled to be completed by the first week of May.

NI Water point out that to facilitate the works, it will be necessary to close the Fernisky Road from the junction at Fernisky Court up to the new housing development just past the junction of Maybin Park.

A diversion route will be signposted throughout the duration of the works.

A closure will also be required on Maybin Park to complete the works with local access permitted up to the works boundary where possible and every effort will be made to keep traffic and pedestrian disruption to a minimum.

NI Water stated: “This essential scheme will ensure that new properties in the area will have a secure storm sewer. This storm sewer will also cater for the future road drainage requirements on this section of the Fernisky Road, reducing the risk of future flooding in the area.

“The work requires trenches of over five metres deep; therefore for health and safety reasons, it is essential that the road remains closed for the duration of the scheme.

“NI Water has consulted extensively with Roads Service and PSNI and the diversionary route in place is the only safe approved route for two way traffic.

“Roads Service are currently completing essential resurfacing work in the area, and we will continue to work closely with Roads Service to complete the laying of the sewer.

“NI Water would like to thank the community for their patience while we complete this essential improvement scheme for the local sewerage infrastructure. Customer queries should be directed to waterline on 08457 440088.”
