Strike looming

BETWEEN 30 and 40 employees of Pall Ulster on the Portadown Road went on an unofficial strike in 1965.

It was understood that the dispute between them and the management concerned proposed operation of a three shift working system at the factory.

The strikers had a meeting that afternoon at the local Transport and General Workers’ Union office and met Mr William Hughes, a union representative from Belfast.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, Mr Hughes was to try to arrange a meeting between management and the union and the conciliation department of the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

An official of Pall Ulster declined to comment on the situation.
