A 27-year-old woman was given a suspended prison sentence last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for an assault on another woman.

Ana Mara Santana Vaz De Vasconcelos, Fitzroy Street, Portadown, was given three months in custody, suspended for two years.

The court heard that on April 5 this year at Woodhouse Street, Portadown, police saw a group of females and one of them seemed to aim a kick at another person in the group and connected with her side.

The defendant ran away and the victim ran after her shouting at her before they were stopped by the police. Both were heavily intoxicated.

The injured party wanted the defendant arrested because she had kicked her.

When interviewed the defendant said she had been extremely intoxicated and could not remember the kicking incident saying the injured party had been verbally abusing her.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the defendant had a relevant previous conviction and that the offence passed the custody threshold.
