Thief steals handbag from car parked in cemetery

Police investigating a theft from a parked car in Carnmoney Cemetery on Friday, April 15 have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

At around 11.30am a thief broke into the vehicle by smashing a window and stole a brown coloured handbag before making off on foot towards O’Neill Road.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Arnie O’Neill said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who believes they may have witnessed the offender running away, to contact police in Newtownabbey on the non-emergency phone number, 101. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”

The incident is the latest in a series of thefts from vehicles parked in local cemeteries.

“I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to remain vigilant and report all suspicious activity. Where possible, always park your car in line of sight and keep valuables hidden,” Sgt O’Neill added.
