Third place in UK for Linn F1 team

A team of primary six pupils from Linn Primary has scooped an award for their miniature racing car powered by carbon dioxide cartridges.

Elle Finnigan, Bobbie Creighton, John Burns, Jack McKenna, Hannah Reid and Alex Eynon designed and manufactured the vehicle which was among entries in the Formula One National Schools Challenge Championships, in Birmingham, on March 11.

The car won an award for innovative thinking which was presented after judges considered the design portfolio and pit display.

The team also came third overall in the nine to 11-year-old category competing against 18 other primary schools from across the United Kingdom.

The team secured their place in the championships by competing with their speedy AF1-R in the regional championships by racing 25 metres in only 0.99 seconds.

Commenting on their success, Jonathon Montgomery, the pupils’ teacher, said: “I am so proud of the children. They are a real credit to the school and to Northern Ireland.”
