Town centre meeting

HOW do you feel about the evening and night time economy in your town? Do you enjoy the night life or feel that improvements could be made? Whatever your opinion, let it be heard!

The Development Department at Craigavon Borough Council along with Full Management Solutions are holding a series of information evenings to gather the views/concerns of local traders and members of the public on improving the evening and night time economy of Lurgan and Portadown town centres and Craigavon Central.

The evenings will provide background information on the project and why it is being carried out, it will identify the strengths of each of the town centres as well as concerns or issues relating to them.

It will also list priorities that would encourage traders to open later and the general public to visit the town centres in the evening and night time.

There will then be an opportunity for discussion and feedback on the points identified – and you are invited to have your say.

“We want to get our town centres up and running throughout the evening and night time and make them family friendly places where people want to be,” commented Alderman Arnold Hatch, Vice-Chair of the Development Committee.

“We want our towns to be welcoming places for all the family to perhaps enjoy late night shopping or to encourage an evening ‘caf culture’. There is so much potential to be unlocked but we want and need to get input from both traders and the general public so that any developments, changes or improvements that are made in the future will be what the community feels is the way to go.

"Obviously changes won’t happen over night but this is the beginning of a process that can really make a difference in the Borough. So come along and have your say on how to boost night time economy in your area.”

The information evening for Lurgan will be held on Monday in Lurgan Town Hall from 7pm to 9pm.
