“Speed limits are there for a reason and show the maximum permitted speed to drive, however, the speed at which traffic passes through Bellaghy is concerning to many within the village”.

Addressing concerns from local residents Cllr Milne noted: “I welcome the erection of the Speed Indicator Device located at the chapel side entering the village. The device is a short-term solution and I will continue to campaign that a long term speed reduction solution is a priority”.

Tacking speeding drivers, improving road safety and campaigning on behalf of the Bellaghy residents Cllr Milne added; “Residents are encouraged to engage with the community consultation process to enhance physical measures to improve road safety on the main street of the village that may include a pedestrian crossing, two bus shelters and the need for traffic calming restrictive measures on the Mullaghboy Road between the school and the village centre.

“The formal consultation on planned safety improvements will give people a chance to comment on the plans and I am encouraging everyone to engage with the consultation process and help improve on road safety measures within the community”.
