Tree surgeons called out after storms

Tree surgeons are hard at work across the county at the minute making safe tall trees that have become unstable during the December storms.

Tall trees pounded by high winds have either become unstable at the rootball, or have damaged branches that could fall, causing damage to nearby homes or farm buildings in the process.

To counter this, the only option is to remove dangerous branches or to cut back the eight of branches high in a tree’s canopy to reduce the impact of the wind.

The video and still photographs attached show a tree surgeon at work on a farm at Curryfree, Ardmore, in the Waterside. To reach the canopy of the trees the crane had to extend to 50 feet to lift the tree surgeon and the crane operator high enough to remove branches using a chainsaw.
