Tributes paid to 90-year-old Dan McKeown
Dan co-founded Larne Special School in February 1964, the predecessor of Roddensvale School.
He grew up in Larne’s Hope Street with brother Tommy and sisters Ellen, Rose and Agnes.

Hide AdHe attended the McKenna Memorial School and Larne Technical College.
Dan completed his apprenticeship as a mechanic at Clarke’s Garage before moving on to Harland and Wolff and ICI in Carrick.
He joined the Scouts in Larne as a boy and revived 2nd Antrim Catholic Boy Scouts and cubs as scout master. He was chairman of MENCAP in Larne for 26 years, and started the Larne Adult Centre and Gateway Club.
Dan is survived by his wife Monica, six children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
