Union calls on people to march at Stormont

Newtownabbey residents who feel strongly about the potential closure of residential care homes are being urged to take part in a march at Stormont next month.

The public sector trade union Unison has organised the event, with staff from the Northern and Causeway health branches set to take part.

And Unison joint branch secretary Stephanie Greenwood has called on local people to show their opposition to any attempts to shut facilities such as Clonmore House residential care home in Rathcoole.

She added: “We call on the public to support this march by coming along and showing our politician’s that they are merely our representatives, less they forget.

“Make this your time to make a difference.

“The public, residents and staff of these care homes – supported by their union and councils in many areas –have made it crystal clear that they want to retain residential care within the NHS. Who is listening?

“We are calling on MLAs to listen now before it is too late.”

Unison has organised buses to take people to the event on July 1.

The bus from Clonmore House will be leaving at 10.15am.
