A vicar who serves in the war zone of Baghdad will be talking about his life at an event in St Mark’s Church, Portadown, this afternoon (Friday).
The Rev Dr Canon Andrew White, also known as the Vicar of Baghdad, serves as vicar of St George’s Church, the only remaining Anglican church in Iraq.
The father-of-two, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, recently had threats issued against his life and those of his parishioners because they were Christians.
In the past, Canon White has been hijacked, kidnapped, locked up in rooms, held at gunpoint and attacked.
The canon will be the guest at the public meeting hosted by St Mark’s in conjunction with Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship.
The event will run from 2-4 and before it begins, there will be an opportunity for clergy and church leaders to meet with Canon White between 1.30 and 2pm.
