Water mains work '˜good news' for Greenisland area

That’s the promise from NI Water ahead of work commencing later this month on the project which is part of a £10.9m investment across Belfast and Carrickfergus.

Last month, East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson voiced concern that the work would impact on the same residents who experienced long-term disruption during the A2 Shore Road upgrade.

According to NI Water the scheme is good news for the area as, when complete, it will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NI Water added: “As with all work of this nature, some disruption is inevitable and Station Road will need to be closed in sections, with the first section involving a road closure from the horseshoe bend to Knockfergus Park. Advance signage and diversion routes will be in place as necessary, as the closure moves along different sections of the road.

“Traffic management and signage will be in place where relevant, and local access for residents and businesses will be maintained at all times.

“NI Water and contractor Farrans Construction have completed letter drops in the area and would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we complete this essential improvement work.

“We will do everything we can to reduce disruption as much as possible, and will continue to work closely with all stakeholders in the area including Translink to ensure that public transport services function with minimum disruption.”
