‘We salute his courage’

THE Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stoke has praised Coleraine’s Caring Caretaker Davy Boyle.

Davy raised a staggering £47,000 for nine charities during a series of events last year which concluded with his annual sit out.

Last Monday night, Davy held a special night to hand over cheques to his chosen charities for the year - Chest, Heart and Stroke, NI Children to Lapland Trust, Defibrillator at the Heart of Every Game, Community Rescue Service, Spina Bifida, Friends of Willowbrook, Blind Centre and Callum’s Chance of Sight.

Speaking at the presentation, Andrew Dougal, Chief Executive of NICHS said, “Davy Boyle is a man who has touched the lives of thousands of people in Northern Ireland as a result of his fundraising marathons.

“He endures the most hostile of weather conditions in order to come to the aid of vulnerable folk in his local community.

“The man is blessed with a determination to combat suffering and ill health where he sees it.

“His humanity and his generosity of spirit have proved to be exemplary and have made such a difference to so many people who have been affected by a broad range of illnesses and disabilities.

“We salute his courage and his magnanimity.

“We thank the people of the Coleraine area, as well as the volunteers who have supported Davy in achieving such a resounding success.”

At the presentation evening Davy announced the ten charities he will be supporting in 2013.

They are: Charlene’s Project, the Wheat Foundation, Defribrillator at the Heart of Every Game, Blind Centre, Cancer Focus NI, Marie Curie, Children to Lapland Trust, Community Rescue Service, Chest, Heart and Stroke, Sandelford School.
